30. The Magic Begins: Favourite Memory About the Harry Potter Fandom
I would have to say watching Deathly Hallows Part 2 at its midnight screening. It was the first time I had ever watched a movie at midnight because all of the other movies had always come out in the middle of the school week. I went with two of my best friends and we decked ourselves out in our Gryffindor robes and brought our wands along. We got to the theatre 6 hours before midnight just to get good seats and it was honestly a blast. Those six hours passed by so quickly. Then the movie began (a little after midnight because movies don’t ever start on time in the cinema) and I was blown away. I couldn’t take my eyes off the screen and my popcorn lay forgotten at my feet because I was so immersed in the movie. Naturally I started sobbing halfway through at the emotional bits and I don’t remember crying so hard in my life. I came to the realization that even though I was still relatively young (13 or 14 at the time, i think) that my childhood was coming to a close and that I was growing up. When the movie ended my friends and I just stayed in the theatre for several minutes after the movie ended composing ourselves and I think I recall us having a massive hug as soon as we got out of the cinema. It was clearly the best movie that we had ever seen and even though Harry Potter was finished, it would forever be a huge part of my childhood and that is why I still love it today.
